Carl August Lehmann
Lehmann left his children not much more than a career and an uncontrollable temper. In her book Mein Weg, his daughter Lilli Lehmann described briefly his temper and career. Lehmann was born in Jüterborg and started his career in the Chorus. He had a beautiful Heldentenor voice and earned enough money to have a secured future. Critics praised his voice, musicality and acting. However Lehmann was always quarrelling, had drunken fits and was a gambler. His wife left him in 1853. His career went nowhere and he died in Dortmund on February 19 1867 in poor surroundings. Unfortunately Lilli Lehmann did not seem to know more or not willing to say more about his career.
