from a piece on the artist by A. Tisento

Neri-Baraldi had the right to ask for the audience indulgence, as he stepped in at the last minute due to the indisposition of Gardoni. We are pleased to say that it was not necessary; as he executed his task to the great satisfaction of the public. He sang te beautiful and sad romance "Angiol di dio" without affectation and a touching expression. He was rewarded with a bis asked enthusiastically by the public, an event happening rarely on our stage. Il Trovatore, 5 May 1862

Un famoso tenore

His name was Pietro Neri-Baraldi, 74 years old. He was first a player of bombardino, then a tenor. Rossini predicted him a great future. He had a great success at his debut in Bologna. He was engaged at the opera houses in Paris, New York, London for 13 seasons, Lisbon. During his artistic life, he met the singer Fricci, and married her. When he finished his splendid career, he retired in Bologna. His sumptuous apartment was open to everybody. He was a good natured, ingenuous, mild person. During his last years, he was reduced to sing in local Choruses and assume the redaction of the musical column in the Sciarade, a newspaper from Bologna. He died yesterday serene as he lived.from an undated and unnamed newspaper clipping
