Josef Tichatschek (Josef Tichacek), was born on 11 Jul 1809 at Ober-Weckelsdorf (Broumov), Bohemia, Austrian Empire, (now in the Czech Republic). The Bohemian tenor was praised by composers such Richard Wagner, Franz Liszt and Hector Berlioz for the power and beauty of his voice. Tichatschek studied music with his father and sang in the choir of the Broumov gymnasium as a child and later while he was studying. He was much admired especially by R. Wagner and was his first Rienzi, and Tannhäuser. He died on 18th January 1886 in Dresden.
