William Wernigk


William Wernigk, born Feb. 5th, 1894, in Chemnitz; died Jan. 21st, 1973, in Vienna. After being wounded in WWI, he moved to Vienna and trained his voice as an autodidact; he made his debut in 1919 at the Vienna Staatsoper, whose member he was to remain until 1963! He always sang comprimario and buffo parts.
