He was chosen personally by the clueless Bonynge for La Traviata in Genova in 1983 and of course got booed together with the terrible Sutherland. (Bonynge was so apalled that he left together with his great wife). In his biography (it comes from a concert organized by the Accademia Veneta in 2007), they proudly mention Traviata with Sutherland hoping that nobody remembers...

Lamberto Furlan sings La Traviata: Parigi o cara, with Joan sutherland

After Mr. Furlan, a Bonynge import, is protested, Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge leave. It is announced that the performance will resume with Slavska Taskova Paoletti as Violetta and Aldo Pizzolo as conductor. Mr. Furlan unperturbed stays to the dismay of the audience. The opera continues to the end with Licinio Montefusco as Germont.
