Gutauskas was born on eptember 4 1909 Katlėriškiai , parish of Debeikių;. He graduated in 1939 from the Kaunsa cConservatory in the classes
of Orest Marini and E. Vilingas.
From 1939 to 1941, he sang at the State Theatre in Kaunas. From 1941 to 1944, he was part of the Vilnius Opere troupe,
and from 1944 to 1964 he was soloist at the Lithaunian Opera and Ballet Theatre.
Form 1963 to 1988, Gutauskas taught sinigng at the Vilniaus J. Tallat Kelpšos School of music.
His repertory included: Faust, Roméo, Tybalt, José, Shuisky, Sinodal, Duca, Don Carlo, Pinkerton,
Liutauras (Gražina by Jurgis Karnavičius), Vaškys (Maryte by Antanas Račiūnas),
Jurgelis (Dalia by Balys Dvarionas), Danyla ( Pilēnai by Vytautas Klova), Naglis (Vaiva by Vytautas Klova), Andrey
(Mazepa), Alfred, Radames, Cavaradossi, Rodolfo, etc besides his concert repertory (Beethoven's 9-th symphony, Verdi's Requiem, Rossini's Stabat Mater,
Rachunas' cantata Soviet Lithuania, Klenickis' cantata Marina Melnikayte, etc ... ).
