Biographical Notes

Béla Környey was born the 18th of May 1875 at Krumau. He began his singing career in 1896, performing as a bass with the theatre's chorus, at the People's Theatre (Nepszinhaz). It was here that he also began his formal musical studies, tutored by the the chorus Master Izso Bama and later by Maestro Felice Mancio. From 1908, he was a member of the Budapest Opera and their leading singer up to his death on the 22th of April 1925. From 1914 to 1918, he was a guest singer in Vienna and in 1922, he toured America.
