Nikolai Vel'jashev


Not much is known on Nikolai Vel'jashev (scenic pseudonym Svetlanov). During 1891-96, he sang at the Bolshoi (debut as Lenski). In the summer of 1894, he organized the "Company of singers of the Imperial Opera" which went on tour in Kazan, and Nizhni Novgorod. Among his best parts were: Lenski, Vladimir (Dubrovski), Ottavio, and the Duke. He sang also in Operetta. During 1919-24, he taught singing at the Voronezh conservatory. The singer died on May 12th., 1924 in Voronezh.
