1912, New York City - July 22, 1988 New York City
with Knight and Hines
John Carter was born in 1912 in New York. In 1938 he participated
in the MET auditions. Success at this competition allowed Carter in 1939 to make a successful
debut as the Sänger in der Rosenkavalier. In 1942 Carter, like many of his colleagues,
joined the American army and participated in the Second World war.
After 1946, he continued singing in opera, but already in small
parts. During that year, he sang Pedrillo (Entführung aus dem
Serail). Nowadays, he is practically forgotten. He recorded very little (1941 for Columbia).
The duet was recorded in 1938 by the Radio. It is a private record.
