David Poleri

January 10, 1921 Philadelphia - December 13, 1967 Kauai, Hawaii (Poleri and his wife were killed in a helicopter crash)
He studied singing with Maestro Alberto Sciaretta.

He made his debut in Chicago with the San Carlo Operea Company as Faust. In 1951, he made his debut at the New York City Opera as Alfredo. He stayed at the City Opera until 1961.

On December 27, 1954 he took part in the world premiere of The Saint of Bleecker Street at the New Yorker Broadway Theater as Michele with Virginia Copeland, Gloria Lane, Leon Lishner, Maria di Gerlando, Maria Marlo, Thomas Schippers.

He sang at the Glyndebourne and Edinburgh (Forza del destino with Walburga Wegner, Bruce Dargaval, Stanley Mason, Bruna MacLean, Philip Lewtas) festivals in 1951 and 1955.

In 1952, he sang at the Maggio musicale in Florence as German ( With Gianna Pederzini, Sena Jurinac, Rina Corsi, Mario Petri, Ettore Bastianini, Sivio Majonica, Nives Poli, Artur Rodzinski) and in 1954 as Andreï in Mazepa (with Ettore Bastianini, Magda Olivero, Boris Christoff, Maryana Radev, Ionel Perlea).

On May 8, 1955 (Total 4), he sang Michele in The Saint of Bleecker Street at La Scala with Danieli, Gasperini, Lane, Maionica, Ottani, Ratti, Ruggiero, Schippers. On January 12, 1956 (Total 4) he sang in Troilus and Cressida at La Scala with Colzani, Dow, Tajo, Sanzogno.

In 1956, he was at Covent Garden singing in Un ballo in Maschera.

During 1961/2, he was at the Chicago Opera singing Alvaro and Vladimir (Prince Igor).

He appeared on TV including Tosca 1955 for NBC.

Poleri appeared in: N.Y.City Opera, New Orleans Opera, Pacific Opera, San Francisco, San Carlo Opera,Mobile Opera Guild, Ala., Jackson Opera Guild, Miss., St.Louis Municipal Opera. He made guest appearence in Central and South America and in Europe: Italy, UK (Edinburgh Festival).

Recordings: RCA (Faust in La damnation de Faust , Tenor-Solo 9. Sinfonie by Beethoven), Melodram (Mazeppa, Florence 1954), Documents (Germann Maggio musicale Fiorentino 1952). There are also live recordings of Manon and Madame Butterfly existing.
