    Comments from Claude Ribou :
    It is not mentioned that Poncet, being a political refugee from Spain, was not obliged to fight for France in 1940. It is also not mentioned that he destroyed a Panzer with a grenade and after his liberation from a French Prisonners camp in Germany; he joined Patton's army to continue fighting. This resulted in Poncet getting the liberty medal from the USA and also participated in the liberation of concentration camps. He was not only heroic on stage but also in life.

    Those medals were shown at the Vauvert's exhibition to celegrate the 30th anniversary of Ponce's death. Below is a description in French of the different medals.

    Commentaire : 
    La guerre :
    Tony Poncet a tenu à participer aux évènements tragiques que notre pays a connu dans les 
    années 1940-1945.  Il s'est alors engagé dans la légion d'honneur au 2ème régiment des 
    volontaires étrangers . Blessé sur la Somme le 5 juin 1940 lors d'un combat  où son unité
    a été sacrifiée pour retarder l'avance ennemie, il fût fait prisonnier et envoyé au stalag
    de Rawa-Ruska en Bavière.  Sa conduite au cours de ces années lui vaut d'être cité à l'ordre
    de la division, de recevoir la croix de guerre avec étoile d'argent,la médaille militaire, 
    ainsi que la médaille américaine de la liberté, la plus haute distinction américaine attribuée
    à un non-américain, étant l'un des rares Français à avoir participé à la libération du camp 
    de concentration de Dachau le 29 Avril 1945.
