Max Lipmann

Max Lipmann (1881-) made his debut as Max (Der Freischutz) in 1905 at the Stadtheater in Heibronn. He was active as a concert and oratorio singer until 1909 when he joined the Stadtheater in Aachen. In 1911, he made his debut at La Scala in the role of David (Die Meistersinger). Lipmann was a member of the Boston Opera Company for the 1912-13 season, singing the roles of Nicias (Thais) and Lionel (Martha) as well as comprimario roles in Tristan and Louise. He was with the opera house at Mannheim from 1913-1923, and also participated in the North America tour of the German Opera Company in 1923-24. During 1934-37, he was known to have sang with the Jüdischen Kulturbund in Frankfurt; his whereabouts after this date are unknown. Lipmann made a total of six sides for the Grammophon Company in 1913-14.
