H. Pietsch sings Die Walküre: Winterstürme wichen dem Wonnemond
In RA Format
Who is Pietsch: This recording is on the back of a Cerini's recording of Asile héréditaire under the name Lewndowski. This tenor singing "Walküre" here is manifestly not the same Herr Pietsch (first name Martin) who recorded an operetta excerpt for the same company. He is a much better singer, unlike the real Martin Pietsch, he has a fine legato and good intonation. The trouble is: Nobody could find another singer named "Pietsch" at any German theatre between 1900 and 1910, nor does the voice resemble any singer familiar to Christian Zwarg/Axel Weggen from other records, Lyrophon and otherwise. The style seems to reveal a 19th century schooling, without the "Sprechgesang" so beloved of the early 1900's Bayreuth style, so one might assume the singer is not a young man but was born circa in the 1860's or even earlier.Information provided bt Christian Zwarg.
