Daniel Prohaska was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and has been living in Vienna, Austria, since 1989.
He graduated at the City of Vienna Conservatoire of Music specialising
in operetta and musical comedy.
Between 1989 and 1992 he was a member of the choir "Neues Wiener Vokalensemble" and from 1998 until 2000 performed for the Vienna based
English language drama group "The VISPA-Players". His repertoire includes drama, operetta, musical comedy and opera.
In RA Format
The selection is from Künneke's Der
Vetter aus Dingsda, which was really a delightful production, nice light music, a hilarious staging, everything executed with ease and
obvious joy on behalf of all artists. Prohaska is a young German tenor, from Frankfurt/Main, and he has no great voice and
no great technique, actually, already classical operetta roles are overstressing his vocal means - but in this very late operetta
(on the edge of a musical), he was actually wonderful. On a sidenote,
the equally brilliant conducting was done by the person who once sat at the school desk next to mine for four years, Alexander Drčar.
I wish to thank Robert Schlesinger for the recording and notes.
