Erik Wirl - born 1885 in Ebensee/Austria, died Feb. 15th, 1954 in Rottach-Egern/Germany.
Successful boy soprano. Debut as a tenor 1906 at the Bayreuth Festival (sailor in "Tristan").
Many years in Frankfurt followed, where he sang in the world premiere of Schreker's
"Der ferne Klang". In the 1920s, he sang primarily operetta in Berlin and Wien. From 1927 a
member of the Kroll Opera in Berlin, then of the Berlin Staatsoper till 1933; now,
he sang the heroic repertoire. Later, he returned to operetta; retired in 1942.
He appeared in several films, as well.
