Friedrich (Fritz) Zohsel

Zohsel studied sing with Jacques Stückgold in Berlin, later with the famous tenor Heinrich Knote.

He made his debut in 1908 at the Hoftheater in Detmold. His next appointments were:
1909-10 Stadttheater in Ulm
1910-11 Stadttheater in Basel
1911-12 Stadttheater in Kattowitz
1912-13 Stadttheater in Görlitz.

After those tenures, he was a guest artist in Berlin. In 1914, he was called by the army and ended in a Russian prison camp.

He could only resume his career in 1919.

During 192-27, he was at the Stadttheater in Chemnitz. There, he took part in the world premiere in 1925 of Hassan der Schwärmer by von Wilhelm Kienzl singing the title role.

During 1927-30, he was soloist at the Opernhaus in Leipzig. There he took part in 1928 in the world premiere of Die baskische Venus by von Hans Hermann Wetzler.

During the next three years from his home in Berlin, he undertook guest appearances in different theaters. Then during 1933-34, he was at the Stadttheater in Dortmund, and during 1933-34, he sang at the Stadttheater in Augsburg.

Then from Berlin again, he resumed his guest appearances, later he opened an impressario agency.

During his career, Zohsel was guest at the Staatsoper from Berlin, Dresden and Vienna (June 6, 1927 as Assad in die Königin von Saba).

His repertory included: Rienzi, Lohengrin, Tannhäuser, Siegmund, Hugo (Undine by Lortzing), Herodes, Ägisth, Matthias (Der Evangelimann by Kienzl), Pedro (Tiefland), José, Manrico, Radames, Cavaradossi, and Gabriele Adorno.

He recorded for Polydor, Parlophon.
