Raptis was born in Greece in 1935, but moved to Szczecin, Poland with his family in 1950. He studied voice in Szczecin (1950-55), and in Poznan (1955-60), and graduated with honors. After graduation, he was immediately engaged at the Grand Theater in Lodz, where he appeared as soloist from 1961-1973. He participated in many vocal competitions, and in 1972 won first prize at the International Vocal Competition in Paris. After leaving the Lodz Opera, Raptis appeared as guest at many opera houses at home and abroad, and also sang with leading orchestras around the world. Among the places in which he sang were the United States, Canada, Hungary, Germany, and the Soviet Union. Raptis also appeared regularly on Polish Radio, and there is a vast repertoire of his recordings in the archives of the Lodz station, which ranges from classical to contemporary song.
I wish to thank Robert Schlesinger for the recording.

I wish to Harold Byrnes for the biographical notes and picture.
