Raptis was born in Greece in 1935, but moved to Szczecin, Poland with his family in 1950.
He studied voice in Szczecin (1950-55), and in Poznan (1955-60), and graduated with honors.
After graduation, he was immediately engaged at the Grand Theater in Lodz, where he appeared as
soloist from 1961-1973. He participated in many vocal competitions, and
in 1972 won first prize at the International Vocal Competition in Paris.
After leaving the Lodz Opera, Raptis appeared as guest at many opera
houses at home and abroad, and also sang with leading orchestras around
the world. Among the places in which he sang were the United States, Canada, Hungary, Germany, and the Soviet Union. Raptis also appeared
regularly on Polish Radio, and there is a vast repertoire of his
recordings in the archives of the Lodz station, which ranges from
classical to contemporary song.
