Sobhi Bedair

Sobhi Bedair is much more often written "Bidair" in Latin letters. That's also how he's writing himself on Facebook. And there is even a website, but it's not available right now (I'm not sure whether: no more - or momentarily not. Prof Dr Sobhi Bidair was a pop singer in the 1970s, and later became an outstanding tenor in the classical world. He graduated from the Cairo Conservatoire and furthered his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, the European Opera Centre in Belgium and the L’Academie Maurice Ravel in France. He has performed over 33 operas and oratories in the most prestigious opera houses in Europe. In 2003, he was decorated with the La Stella Della Solidarieta Italiana and given the title of Cavaliere by the president of Italy. He has also been awarded the Egyptian Opera Shield of Honour for his achievements in the field of opera. He will be performing with Arabic rock artiste Sadek Gallini and pianist Nayar Nagui, as well as a group of his students and friends. He was also at one time manager of the Cairo Opera. Nowadays, he's back to singing pop (regular "Sobhi Bidair & Friends" concerts).
