He studied with Gillis Bratt in Stockholm after appearing first as ballet dance.

He made his debut in 1919 (Other date 1922) in Stockholm and stayed there until 1925.

He was first hired by the Städtische Oper Berlin and then moved to the Berliner Staatsoper.

At the Berliner Staatsoper, on November 26, 1938 he took part in the world premiere of Peer Gynt and on January 1, 1939, he sang in the world premiere of Die Bürger von Calais by Wagner-Régenys. In 1928, he appeared for the first time at the Festival in Bayreuth. He appeared there until 1944 mostly in small parts.

During his stay in Berlin, he made guest appearances in Sweden and in Germany. He returned to Sweden in 1945. There he continued his career until his death.
