He sang beside artists of the importance of Lily Pons, Gina Cigna, Maria Caniglia, Zinka Milanov, Rosetta Pampanini, Clara Petrella, Renata Tebaldi, Cloe Elmo, Ebe Stignani, Giulietta Simionato, E. Bastianini, C. Guichandut, G. Becchi, T. Gobbi, A. Sved. And greatest conductors as: Capuana, de Fabritiis, Calusio, Cleva, Ghione, Erede, Gavazzeni, Guarnieri, Panizza, Serafin, Rudel. Rossi, de Sabata, Santi etc.

He sang in Santiago in 1943 (Tosca) and 1955 (Lucia, Rigoletto, Carmen & Trovatore). He made his North American debut on November 8th 1945, singing Alfredo Germont in La Traviata at the New York City Center, and the critics immediately labeled him the possessor of a naturally fine voice. Within a month he followed this with his first performance in Il Trovatore at the Academy of Music, Philadelphia. His third act aria stopped the show and won nine curtains calls from a wildly enthusiastic audience. Again, the critics were lavish in their praise. Lagares scored another hit when he appeared as guest star of the spring opera season at New York's Center Theatre. Although he had never studied the score of Aida until two weeks before, his opening night performance as Radames resulted in a brilliant personal triumph. Although he bears a striking physical resemblance to Caruso in his younger days, he was selected by Dorothy Caruso, for the film "The Great Caruso", which was later performed by Mario Lanza.

Recordings: Zarzuela Arias for R.C.A Victor in Argentina, Italians songs with Mº Fidanzini. For La Voce del Padrone in Italy, with Mº A. Quadri Operatics Arias, and l Lombardi complete recording for RAI Torino with Mº Vernizzi.
